Chabin
is an area about a 20 min. drive north of Jacmel. We will have over two hundred
children attending these schools in Sept. 07. We started the first school in
January of 2006. This was our first project in Haiti. We will be building a
second level on the second school during the summer of 2008. For this year to
help make room we will build two classrooms outside for two of the pre school
classes. The children start pre school at the age of three and the schools go
up to grade 6. In Haiti their school system goes to grade 13 and we hope to
build high school for the children from the mountain regions. All of our schools
are in the mountains and remote except for Jacmel which will open Sept. 2007.
We have purchased 20 acres of land at this location where we will have our own
gravel/sand pit where we will be able to build our own cinder blocks. We will
eventually build a technical school, training the young people skills such as
welding, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, cabinet building, masonry, sewing,
etc. We hope to build accomodations on the property for our teachers and cooks
that work at the school. We will also build a house to house people that want
to come over and help at the schools for short term visits. It is a very rare
thing to have a high school in any of the regions where we are working. We hope
to build a high school on the property to educate all the children at that level
from all of our projects in souther Haiti. To do this we will have to build
dorms for the students to live during the school terms. We also want to build
water purification systems on this property. We will post more of this at a
later date. Water is a huge need in this country.
